Ironic Behavior

as boys, we learn to fight
whether for our mothers in the Dozens or
my sack lunch that was so lovingly folded and creased just right.

to be the first in line for recess
because it’s my turn and i’ve earned my right,  

for our sisters and younger brothers
who meet the demise of odd circumstance. 
reminding them, ”I’d set fire to his ass if he ever raise his hand..” 

but i’m older now, the means and energy to ball my fist
cuff to cuff may seem bit silly now, but the desire to lash out on

something
someone
somewhere
by any means

still calls my boyish youth.

I am looking for a revolution.
striking my fist to the air

a man needs a reason and means to fight
for the same reasons he did then, 

To uphold and protect
‘cause things just ain’t right.
